A few weeks ago, Mirella van Leeuwen and Annelou de Man announced they were to organise an auction for Friesian foals. The initiative was received with great enthusiasm. As of today, the website is live, and foals can be signed up for selection.
Big names in the team
The auction is supported by a strong team of ambassadors. Susan Wind, Marc-Peter Spahn, Denise Klap, Erwin Spliethof, Willem Houterman and Huibert Maurice have attached their name to the auction. Mirella: “Our ambassadors decide if a foal meets the selection requirements we have set. This team ensures us enormous knowledge, expertise, and experience. Quality comes first and together with this group of people we make sure that our clients can buy carefully selected foals.”
At the moment, Excel Friesian Auction is the only auction for Friesian foals. Friesians are in high demand all over the world, but a platform where a group of selected foals would come for sale, did not yet exist. Annelou: “As an organiser of various warmblood auctions, including Foal Auction Borculo, I have gained lots of experience over the past years regarding selling foals. Increasingly often I got asked why there is no auction for Friesian horses. I did not have the answer myself and we believe it is an untapped market.”
The auction takes place online and the foals are selected in the direction of breeding (potential broodmares and stallion prospects) and additionally we specifically select foals with the aptitude for sport. The foals are presented via extensive photo and video footage (including a 180-degree video of the leg conformation). The fillies shall furthermore include a pairing recommendation and the ambassadors provide the foals with additional advice. Potential buyers may call on the organisation for advice on the perfect match.
